BART C Cars ushered in a new era of efficiency in dispatch operations when they arrived in the 1990’s. C cars could operate as either lead, trail or in the middle of a train consist. They were equipped with an operator's compartment, automatic train control equipment and a communications system. C Cars gave BART flexibility to change train size without rerouting to a storage yard. Riders knew them as the first to have a blue interior color palette, instead of the 1970’s vintage brown and orange of BART’s early days.
The C Cars were the first in the Legacy Fleet to be decommissioned.
